Stewart Green
As a climber, photographer, and author, Stewart recognized the importance of the first ascent of Supercrack. He rented two Bolex Super 8 cameras and, along with Michael Gardner, shot the original footage of the climb. He stored those reels for the next 32 years, waiting for the right time to create a film of this historic ascent. After viewing the film Higher Ground, by Chris Alstrin, Stewart knew he had found the right filmmaker.
He spends much time wandering around the Colorado Plateau, exploring, canyoneering, and climbing sandstone towers and remote cliffs. Since the mid-1980s Stewart has worked as a contract photographer and writer for Falcon Publishing and Globe Pequot Press, writing 18 books and photographing a couple more. Some of his books include Rock Climbing Europe, Rock Climbing Colorado, Rock Climbing Utah, Rock Climbing Arizona, Rock Climbing New England, Scenic Driving Colorado, Scenic Driving California, Scenic Driving Back Country Byway, Colorado Parklands, and Rocky Mountain National Park Pocket Guide. His photographs and writing have been featured in many publications, including Climbing, Rock & Ice, Outside, Sierra, New York Times, and many others. He is also the administrator and editor for the Climbing at About.com website Climbing. He has an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Goucher College. View his website here
